A clean and stylized work, Man with Tie depicts the upper torso of a man. Similarly to Tennis at Ten, Cocktails at Noon, Man with Tie explores the potential to suggest figure and form through simple rendering techniques. Through basic gestures and smooth line work, Ryan smoothly suggests the body of a man. The  muted background color and soothing blue of the shirt are juxtaposed to the bright red heart and the multicolor spotted tie. Interestingly, there is a heart shaped design on the left breast pocket which is placed where the man’s physical heart would sit below. The flattened forms are almost cartoonish in style, particularly as there is no cast shadow or sense of depth.
