In 2019, before departing for a month-long residency at Thread in Senegal sponsored by the Joseph and Annie Albers Foundation, Cronin refused to anticipate what he would discover while there. To make his art, he learns and works from the specific situation in which he finds himself. He had made a brief visit to Senegal the year before, but this one was different, 30 straight days of making art in a place he didn’t really know. It made him nervous and that in his mind was good.
A portion of sales from works created at Thread will be donated to Le Korsa, The Albers Foundation's sibling organization that supports medical and educational facilities in rural Senegal, West Africa.
